( of Manhattan
Transfer), with special guest Corey Allen , ( Keyboardist for
Chuck Mangione)
Cheryl
Bentyne
is an accomplished world-reknown
singer / songwriter. After playing
in her father's band, and performing
with the New Deal Rhythm Band in
Seattle area coffee houses, she got
her big break in 1979 when she cam
onboard as soprano for The Manhattan
Transfer. Cheryl's contribution was
immediate and decisive, winning the
group its first Grammy Award in 1980
for "Birdland." The Manhattan
Transfer has won a total of ten
Grammy Awards.
Cheryl's has helped broaden its
audience with her performances, and
has received a Grammy nomination for
best female vocalist for "Meet Benny
Bailey" from the Vocals album. This
album also won Cheryl her own
Grammy, which she shares with Bobby
McFerrin, for the vocal arrangement
of "Another Night In Tunisia."
Among the many albums from The
Manhattan Transfer, Cheryl can also
be heard on the soundtracks of Dick
Tracy, A Dangerous Woman, and Mortal
Thoughts.
In 2000, Cheryl released the
original cast recording of Dreaming
Of Mister Porter - a new musical
revue based on the music and wit of
Cole Porter. It has played to
sold-out audiences and received rave
reviews in Boston and Seattle.
Since 1988, Cheryl has extended her
musical adventures beyond The
Manhattan Transfer, including her
appearance on Rob Wasserman's highly
acclaimed Duets album, and releasing
her first solo album Something Cool
in 1992. In the last twelve months,
Cheryl has recorded two CDs for the
King Records label for release in
Japan. The first, Moonlight
Serenade, features Cheryl leading a
vocal group comprised of some of the
best singers in the business: Mark
Kibble from Take 6, Roger Treece from
Bobby McFerrin's Voicestra jazz
great Kevin Mahogany. The Lights
Still Burn is an album of romantic
ballads by such diverse composers as
Jimmy Webb, McCoy Tyner, Burt
Bacharch and Billy Strayhorn. This
album clearly establishes Cheryl as
great interpreter of classic
American songs.
Cheryl Bentyne is a versatile artist
that always leaves you swinging even
after the show is over.
